Kenya Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has taken a jibe at rivals Tanzania as they face Morocco in the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship quarterfinals.

The South African tactician was all smiles after his side topped Group A, which has two-time champions Morocco, DR Congo, as well as powerhouse Zambia and Angola.

Finishing above the Atlas Lions means the co-hosts will stay in Nairobi, where they face Madagascar in the last eight, while Tanzania also stays in Dar es Salaam.

“Tanzania will get their wish, and they will experience what we experienced. The group of death, now Morocco is heading to Tanzania,” he said with a smile.

“I want feedback after the Morocco game, so that they know what we went through every game in this tournament. Good luck to Tanzania.”

Ryan Ogama scored the winner to ensure Kenya beat Zambia and stay on home soil with 10 points, one better than Morocco.

“At the end of the day, I am happy with the win because we get to play our next match in the quarter finals, and we stay in Kenya, and that is all that is important.”

Kenya will be the favourites against the Malagasy side that finished second in Group B behind co-hosts Tanzania but McCarthy has warned against complacency.
