Round 2 of the Central Uganda Rugby 7s took place last Sunday at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

The eventual winners of the Central 7s, the Victoria Sharks and Ewes qualified for the core status playoffs and were joined by the Makerere Impis as the representatives to compete against other regional winners at a date and venue yet to be announced by the Uganda Rugby Union.

This qualification comes at the expense of other strong sides like the Warriors, Kyambogo Rugby and Kisubi Pacers in the men’s category, while in the women’s category, the Panthers shall have to wait for next year to try again.

The Victoria Sharks proved too strong for the Makerere boys once again, defeating them first, in a 19-07 first round final and then next in a 15-12 second round final of the Central Uganda 7s.

The Sharks, who are the reigning Inter-University Rugby 7s champions, fell short in the core status qualifiers last year, making way for the Gulu City Falcons and the Kampani Eagles to gain promotion.

The aforementioned teams are joined by the Jaguars and Warriors for the men, while the Panthers are the other women’s team to represent the central region at the forthcoming Entebbe 7s this weekend at Sai Pali Institute in Entebbe.
