All motorsport enthusiasts will have a chance to have a real-time experience of motorsport competition after the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) launched the E-Sports championship series in Uganda.

FMU, together with the international motorsport body FIA, set the inaugural Esports championship in motion with an intention of growing the digital motorsport competition.

The Esports targets to unlock the fans’ endurance with the introduction of exciting and innovative virtual reality racing.

Leon Ssenyange, the FMU E-Sports Coordinator, shared with Kawowo Sports the contribution E-Sports brings to Ugandan motorsport.

“It is an amazing initiative. The cluster of young people who are attracted to electronic sports is enormous. This championship is now an opportunity to bring them closer to the thrills of racing. Who knows, the journey of our future national champions could start here.”

The FIA has used Esports as a grassroots method to nurture and grow talent in the world.

Several E-Sports competitions have been held, including the FIA Rising Star E-racing which featured Uganda’s Mohammed Ali.

Just like other motorsports disciplines, Esports is gradually gaining global status with an African championship already in the pipeline by FIA.

“South Africa and Mozambique have organised continental cups. That shows a positive trajectory of E-racing. We need to get our participants ready for such stages,” said Ssenyange.

FMU’s General Secretary was excited about the project, saying it’s a proper ground for nurturing future Ugandan champions.

“As a federation, we are quite excited to be launching the E-Sport championship, and this is historical; this is an opportunity to grow our sport and have different sport disciplines for expansion and growth,” says Reynold Kibira.

The first round of the series is slated for 30-31st August 2025 and will be held at The Fun Station found at Metroplex Naalya.
