The prestigious Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Series officially tee off for the 2025 edition on Friday with the seniors (55 years and above).
The venue for the series that also accommodates ladies, amateurs and professionals is the 18-hole newly laid championship Lugazi Hills and Country Club in Lugazi municipality.
The seniors will play 36 holes in two rounds commencing on Friday, 22nd August 2025 before climaxing on Saturday, when the crowning and prize giving ceremony will be held.
The subsidiary cluster (all golfers below 55 years) will play on the final day (Saturday, 23rd August 2025).
As the seniors tee off, all the eyes are on the reigning champion, Steven Katwiremu.
Katwiremu drives off round one at 11:50 a.m. alongside David Balaka and Sam Onek.
Former winner Charles Katarikawe will tee off at noon with the duo of George Egaddu and Robert Lim Lim.
John Muchiri, a two-time Seniors’ Open champion, is booked for 10:10 am, playing alongside Tony Kisadha and Dominic Tumwesigye.
Swift ageing swingers as Charles Kagombe, Fred Kasumba, Zephaniah Dube, Chuang Gier, John Katto and Joseph Bagabo, among others, are also contenders.
The females in action include the likes of Jennifer Opio, Monica Ntege, Rose Azuba, Grace Obua, Regina Ddamulira, Aphra Basaliza, Catherine Pavie, Dr. Katty Kabenge and the reigning female champion Edrae Kagombe.
After the seniors, the action will swing to the Ladies Open (28th to 30th August), then the main Amateurs Open (3rd to 6th September) and finally the Professionals (9th to 13th September).
The Uganda Open is headlined by Johnnie Walker as the title sponsor.
