- Benjamin Mkapa stadium, Dar es Salaam 8pm
Tanzania Taifa Stars will face their biggest test of the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship 2024 on Friday when they take on Morocco at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium.
The Taifa Stars, like fellow co-hosts Uganda and Kenya topped their group with flawless performances losing no game as they won three and drew once.
In Morocco, they face two-time champions who qualified to the quarter finals from probably the group of death at the expense of DR Congo, Angola and Zambia.
Hemed ‘Morocco’ Suleiman is aware of what kind of threat the Atlas Lions pose but admits respect and not fear for them especially in front of the home crowd at Wanja wa Taifa.
“We respect them, but we’re not afraid. I know the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium will be full, because the Tanzanian people now believe in their team,” said Hemed.
The co-hosts will rely on the defensive pair of Dickson Job and Hamad Bacca to stop Lamlaoui who is a joint top scorer so far with three goals with Fei Toto, Yusuphu Kagoma and Yahya Mudathir running the show in the middle of the pack.
Up front, Tanzania will rely on Clinton Mzize and Iddy Nado for inspiration as they play their first ever quarter final in the competition on the third time of appearance.
They will draw inspiration from Kenya’s victory over the Atlas Lions in the group stages.
Earlier on the day, Kenya take on Madagascar at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
