David Plenderleith and Rob Heppell shared day one bragging rights of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Seniors’ Championship.

The duo returned to the clubhouse with a course 12 over 83.

Heppell, a Jinja Club member, had a rough start with double bogeys on the first three holes, parred hole 4, but played a triple bogey on a par-4 hole 7. The rest of the round was flawless, with the hiccup coming on par-5 hole 16 where he registered another triple bogey.

Meanwhile, Plenderleith’s scorecard was littered with nine bogeys (on holes 3,4,7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17 & 18) and two double bogeys on holes 2 and 10. The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa member birdied hole 16 and registered par scores on the rest of the holes.

UGC’s Joseph Bagabo scored 88 to take 7th place while William Otieno, William Mutyaba and Joseph Semwaga, a member of Kigali Golf Club, returned 89 and completed the top ten.

The final round will be played on Saturday.
