The Seniors’ category of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Series climaxed at the par-71 Lugazi Hills and Country Club on Saturday, 23rd August.

David Plenderleith, 64, amassed a total gross of 167 in two rounds to emerge as the overall winner.

Plenderleith, a member of Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa played 83 during the opening round before adding a shot on round two.

The handicap 25 golfer recorded two birdies (par-5 hole 16 and par-3 hole 3) in the 36 holes played.

Plenderleith’s scorecard also had 11 pars, 19 bogeys and 4 double bogeys.

Well, everybody has luck and maybe it was my turn to have a little bit of luck, sometimes that’s how the game goes. I have not played well for the last nine months and this win is a fantastic boost. I plan to play more senior tournaments in the coming months.

Former winner John Muchiri finished second with 86, 84 (170), as Tony Kisadha was third with 85, 87 (172)

Michael Cleave (176) and Rwanda’s Joseph Semwaga (178) completed the top five positions.

Others in the top 10 were Joseph Bagabo (179), John Katto (180), William Otieno (182), Robert Lim Lim (182) and Zephania Dube (184).

2023 and 2024 back-to-back champion Stephen Katwiremu finished 11th overall with 185 gross in 36 holes.

For the ladies, Catherine Pavie scored 192 to win the female cluster.

Pavie, a member of Jinja Club, was 2 shots better than Katy Kabenge.

Rose Azuba and last year’s champion Edrae Kagombe jointly tied in third place with 199 gross apiece.

Focus now turns to the Ladies Open that will be played from 28th to 30th August at the same venue.

The main Amateur Open will take place from 3rd to 6th September, and finally the Professionals will play from 9th to 13th September.

Christine Kyokunda, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, said that the Seniors Tournament is symbolic as it shows that older players have carried the game with passion and discipline over the years, setting the standard for future generations.
