Madagascar players celebrate

2024 CHAN (Semifinals):

  • Madagascar 1-0 Sudan
  • Morocco 1 (5) – 1 (3) Senegal

Madagascar qualified for their first-ever final at the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.

Despite playing with 10 men for 40 minutes, including the 30 additional minutes of extra time, Madagascar held their nerves to beat Sudan 1-0 at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Normal time of this first semifinal contest had ended goalless with Madagascar playing with a man less after the red card of Fenohasina Razafimaro in the 79th minute for a second bookable offence.

Toky Rakotondraibe scored in the 116th minute to send Sudan crashing.

The victory guaranteed Madagascar a slot in the final and awaits Morocco in the final on Saturday, 30th August 2025.

Morocco recovered from a goal down to win the contest over Senegal 5-3 in post-match penalties after normal time and the added extra-30 minutes had ended 1-goal apiece at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Tuesday night.

Defender Layousse Samb headed Senegal ahead in the 16th minute.

The joy-was however short lived with Sabir Bougrine’s spectacular goal 7 minutes later.

In the tense shoot-out, Morocco scored all their penalties through Mohamed Hrimat, Oussama Lamlioui, Ayoub Khairi, Anas Bach and Youssef Mehri.

Senegal missed their opening kick when Seyni Mbaye Ndiaye razzled his shot on the crossbar.

Vieux Cisse, Baye Ciss and Daouda Ba scored their respective kicks.

Sudan, the only remaining member of the CECAFA region, will play in the bronze medal match on Friday, 29th August 2025.
