Bukedea Comprehensive School sports project manager Katende Malibu expressed satisfaction by the rate at which the whole initiative has evolved for the three years since inception.

Kagera Hall at Hotel Africana in Kampala city on Monday, 25th August 2025 was filled with euphoria as the gold medalists for Bukedea Comprehensive School (football and beach volleyball) at the recently concluded 2025 Federation of East African Secondary Schools Association (FEASSA) Games hosted in Kakamega county, Western Kenya were hosted at a sumptuous luncheon.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Anita Anita Among along with the president of Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Hon. Moses Magogo donated a cash worthy $ 20,000 (at least Ug.Shs 74,000,000) to the triumphant pool of sportsmen.

The generous offer is a token of appreciation for scooping gold at the games that brought together schools from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and guests Ivory Coast.

The $20,000 paper notes were officially handed over to Godfrey Ssekibengo, the football captain at Bukedea Comprehensive School.

“This is the bonus promised before the start of the 2025 FEASSA Games. Thank you for playing well. We promise to support the sports project at Bukedea Comprehensive School” Speaker Among remarked in her brief speech.

In sheer appreciation, the football team captain echoed sentiments of praise. “We are honored and very excited for this donation” a shy Ssekibengo stammered. “This push gives us the momentum and impetus to work even harder” he added.

Bukedea Comprehensive School football and beach volleyball teams completed the entire campaign unscratched throughout the tournament.

The beach volleyball captain David Kigozi also hailed the collaborative forces from the players, coaches, support staff to the general management.

“I thank everybody who has been part of our success. From mama (Speaker Among), the managers, the players, coaches and other support staff, we are honored indeed” Kigozi hinted.

The Bukedea Comprehensive School sports project manager Fred Katende Malibu expressed satisfaction by the rate at which the whole initiative has evolved.

“This is now a third-year sports project at Bukedea Comprehensive School. The idea was brought in by the Speaker herself to give scholarships to the sports students” Katende recollected vividly.

“Three years ago, we were 48th in Uganda; We are now number three in Uganda; number third in the world and number one in East Africa. We came as a new school with new tactics, renovations and ideas. We continue to make significant strides” Katende added.

There are over 200 student scholarships in various sports at Bukedea Comprehensive School as Volleyball, beach volleyball, football, netball, athletics and DanceSport.

The head of delegation for the Bukedea Comprehensive School to Kakamega for the 2025 FEASSA Games was Professor Jonas Gumisiriza, also the Managing director of Anita establishments.

Professor Gumisiriza lauded the Speaker for the bold decisions to invest in sports and infrastructure which is now reaping off dividends.

He also appreciated the key partners in the sports project as Rays of Grace primary school and Prosper Soccer Academy who were ably represented by Roberts Kiwanuka and Dennis Namanya respectively.

“I thank mama (Speaker Among) for accepting to invest in sports and its infrastructure. We now have world class facilities at the school, the best in Bukedea region. These have helped the project move miles. I thank the parents, coaches, team managers and our supportive partners as Rays of Grace Primary School and Prosper Soccer Academy” Professor Gumisiriza echoed.

Besides football (boys) and beach volleyball, Ugandan teams also excelled with flying colours in football (girls), basketball (girls), swimming, netball, beach soccer, lacrosse (boys and girls), DanceSport and others.

The 2026 FEASSA Games will be hosted by Tanzania.
