2024 CHAN Tournament:

  • Third-place: Sudan 1 (2) – 1 (4) Senegal

Senegal finished third at the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Recovering from an early goal by Sudanese Mohamed Tia Asad in the 6th minute, Senegal who had won the 2022 championship equalized in the second half through Seyni Mbaye Ndiaye with two minutes to the hour mark.

After 90 minutes, Ugandan referee Shamilah Nabadda straight away called for the post-match penalties that Senegal won 4-2.

Layousse Samb, Issa Kane, Vieux Cisse and Libasse Gueye all converted from 12 yards.

Mohamed Saeed Ahmed and Ahmed Tabanja were on target for Sudan in the shoot-out whilst Walieldin Khidir and Musab Makeen missed their respective kicks.

Senegal’s Daouda Ba was named the man of the match.

The bronze medals were presented by the CAF vice president accompanied by other executive committee members, Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Uganda FA president Moses Magogo, among others.

Uganda’s top musician Jose Chameleon thrilled the crowd with entertainment thereafter.
