Busoga College Mwiri won their 20th Schools Cricket Week championship by 25 runs against St John’s High Kauga.

The record winners denied St John’s Kauga their maiden title in a very tense game, with Mwiri winning the tournament with a perfect record.

In the morning, both finalists had to overcome different opponents to book a final spot. Mwiri took Shree Sahajanand to school in a nine wicket win while St John’s High Kauga denied hosts Nyakasura a final.

In the afternoon, Mwiri won the toss and elected to bat. They were not flawless in their innings and took them sometime to get the run scoring with Ronald Olipa (34) and Daniel Muhumuza (20) pushing along the total to get to 116/9 in their 20 overs.

In the run chase, St John’s High School wobbled at 28/3 but Robert Owili (21) and Ali Balidawa (27) steadied the ship and applied the pressure to move the score nicely. However, once Owili exited, it got difficult for Kauga to mount a challenge and eventually ran out of resources with 21 runs still required for the win.

Mwiri will delight in their 20th title after coming very close in the last two years.
