  • Matchday 1: Division 1 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers Namibia
  • Game 1: Uganda W v Tanzania W
  • Time: 3:30pm

The Victoria Pearls of Uganda will face Tanzania in their opening game of the Division I Women’s Qualifiers as they start their bid for at the 2026 T20 Women’s World Cup.

The two East Africans are friendly enemies with their last meeting in the Kwibuka Women’s Tournament in Rwanda that encounter won by Uganda but Tanzania winning the overall tournament.

Tanzania will have revenge on their minds after Uganda sneaked past them in the semifinals of the same Qualifier in Entebbe two years ago, Uganda got out of jail in that game managing to snatch a win out of the jaws of defeat.

Janet Mbabazi and her side will have advantage of having played a few games in Namibia in April this year but in a derby match the team that plays well on the day will most definitely win. The conditions in Namibia are perfect with no threats of rain and Uganda if confident enough can post a total and look to shut the door on their rivals in the run chase.

Tanzania is very solid with bat but can not that strong with ball in hand but their resilience is also their strength, they never give up a fight until all chips are down. The perfect opponent for Uganda to start with and if they are able to overcome Tanzania they will take great confidence going forward.

There will be some selection headache for Head Coach Deus Muhumuza especially between Kevin Amuge and Irene Mutonyi on who will take responsibility for the new ball, Malisa Ariokot and Phiona Khulume will also a selection headache with the rest of the core will largely be the same.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club. Interwin Interwin INTERWIN Starwin88 ...
