Nkana Golf Club’s Dominic Musonda, 22, is the famous day one leader at the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Amateur Open Championship.
Musonda tore the Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club course apart with a 6-under-65 during the opening round on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025.
“It was a great round,” the diminutive four-time Zambia Open winner remarked after posting 8 birdies, 8 pars and 2 bogies in 18 holes.

“The driver today was not perfect but I still made it with two bogeys; one off the fairways on hole 14 with another on the green on hole 17,” Musonda added.
The Zambian takes a two-shot lead coming to round two, with Uganda’s amateur team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai in second place.
Musonda tees off Round Two at 8:40 AM alongside Juma Abiti and Titus Okwong.

Cwinya-ai played 4-under 67 during the opening round with 5 birdies, 12 pars and just a bogie on the par-3 hole 17.
“The round on day one was superb and I expect to improve going ahead,” noted Cwinya-ai, a former Uganda Open winner.
During round two, Cwinya-ai will drive off at 9:40 AM with Peter Tumusiime and Ali Wasim.
Two golfers, Elton Thembo and Abdul Kakeeto, tie in position three with 1-under-70.

Peter Tumusiime, Rogers Eyoyo and John Musimenta are all level par (70).
2022 champion Andrew Sekibejja, Sande Lulet and Lawrence Walakira played 1-over-72.
The reigning champion, Joseph Reagan Akena, will have nightmares after posting 6-over-77 during the opening round.
Akena’s most troublesome hole was on the par-5 hole 7 with two of bounds shots as he registered a greyish double bogey.
Round two will be played on Thursday, as the golfers complete 36 holes.
