Overview:

Vipers are back in the country from Kigali, Rwanda where they played two friendly matches – drawing goalless with Tanzania’s Azam and losing 4-1 to home team Rayon Sport.

Reigning Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC withdrew from the 2025 Cecafa Kagame Cup a few days before the tournament draw in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Venoms were initially part of the 12 teams earmarked from the annual regional club tournament but withdrew at the last hour with their position handed to NEC who also opted out despite being involved in the draw.

Kawowo Sports understands that Vipers withdraw was a result of their CAF Champions League preliminary opponents African Stars, of Namibia will host their first leg clash in South Africa.

That meant that Vipers contingent had to get Visas from the South African High Commission and the scheduled dates collided with the dates the team would be playing in the Kagame Cup.

“It would be difficult for the team to travel from Tanzania to go for visa application and then return for the tournament,” a source close to the club revealed.
