The 2025 World Para-Powerlifting championship will be hosted in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital, Egypt (8th to 18th October). It will attract over 800 athletes from more than 73 countries, including Uganda.

Uganda will be ably represented at the 2025 World Para-Powerlifting Championships in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital, Egypt (8th to 18th October).

Dennis Mbaziira will skipper the team that also has Ismael Isa Ssebagala, Rebecca Zawedde and Janet Nakayobyo under the head coach Kenneth Sekilanda.

“We are currently in final preparations for the 2025 World Para-Powerlifting Championship. All the players are giving their best effort in training sessions,” head coach Sekilanda remarks.

The Ugandan delegation will also be accompanied by Robert Musinguzi, an official from the Uganda Powerlifting Commission.

The championship will attract over 800 athletes from more than 73 countries, including Uganda.

This is the first time that Africa and Egypt, in particular, are hosting a world para-lifting event.

The championship is a precursor in the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s regional powerlifting championships commence on Saturday, 26th September 2025, in Gulu, Northern Uganda.

The second event will be in Kampala at Shape Gym, Bulenga Opposite Water on 25th October 2025 and the final regional event will be hosted in Mbarara city on 1st November 2025 in the Western region.

The grand finale will then come in December 2025 at a venue to be confirmed.
