Police FC sealed their first win of the new season, overcoming Express FC in a closely contested game played on Thursday.

The 2-1 win marked the first victory for the Cops at their new home, the Kiira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya.

It should be noted that Police played their first game at the new facility last week against Mbarara City and the game ended in a one-all draw.

Today, the team under Matia Lule’s stewardship had two changes from the lineup that started last week with Lawrence Tezikya and Umar Kasumba starting ahead of Denis Kalanzi and Charles Bbale.

The changes came with dividends and it was Kasumba who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, slotting home from Swize Mario’s cross.

At the stroke of halftime, the Red Eagles levelled matters with Ssenoga Kagawa converting from the spot after Richard Bassangwa had been brought down in the box.

The home side were however able to regain their lead in the 76th minute with new recruit Bedia Ikamba from Congo and second half substitute, curling home when Tezikya teed him up.

The Cops held on for the reminder of the game to secure maximum points and condemn Express to their first loss this season.

The win means Police FC move joint top of the table on 4 points same as BUL FC while Express FC drop to sixth place after two games on three points.
