Lacrosse action

History awaits to be written this Saturday, October 4th, 2025, when Makerere University Business School (MUBS) hosts Metropolitan International University (MIU) in the first-ever inter-university lacrosse game in Uganda at the iconic MUBS Arena, Nakawa, Kampala.

The landmark friendly is more than a contest between two institutions—it represents the beginning of a new chapter for Ugandan university sports, as lacrosse officially takes its place on the inter-university stage.

On the home side, MUBS will look to former Kigezi High school’s Nicholas Kwesiga to dictate the tempo of play, while former Bombo Army Secondary school’s star Robert Kato is expected to be a constant scoring threat.

For the ladies, between the posts, goalkeeper Immaculate Apio brings calmness and shot-stopping ability that could prove decisive while fast paced Lindah Nandera will be expected to bring the vital speed the team requires at all times.

Metropolitan International University comes in equally prepared, led by captain IsaacMutebi, whose general leadership is already well respected.

For the MIU Womens’ side, free scoring Shirat Naiga promises flair and finishing.

Both captains expressed pride in being part of this milestone fixture.

This is more than just a friendly match. It’s a chance to write history and show what lacrosse can become in Ugandan universities. We are ready to compete and inspire the next generation of student-athletes.

Robert Kato, MUBS Captain

We feel honored to be part of the first inter-university lacrosse game. Facing MUBS will be a tough challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to showcase MIU’s spirit and to contribute to the growth of this beautiful game.
