The 2025 National 7s series produced a plethora of superstars, some of whom have been rewarded for their impressive exploits. Jeremiah Ojambo, Fat Moses Watmon, Ivan Bulima, Shakim Ssembusi and Julius Oyuk have been called up to the Rugby Cranes 7s team that is set to represent Uganda at the 2025 Safari 7s at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.
Although Shakim Ssembusi made his national team debut for the Rugby Cranes 15s in 2023, he had never donned the Uganda jersey for the 7s, despite great performances in the National 7s series.
Julius Oyuk, who has finally come of age at the Heathens Rugby Club, earns a senior call up. He last featured for Uganda at the Under 20 level in the Barthes Cup. Jeremiah Ojambo and Fat Moses Watmon exhibited what a modern forward does in the 7s game, for a nation that isn’t very blessed with size.
Arguably the most valuable player of the National 7s series, Ivan Bulima finally came of age in the 2025 National 7s series. The playmaker was an invaluable link within the Walukuba Barbarians side, and it was quite noticeable whenever he was not on the pitch. He now links up with teammates Wokorach and Ssembusi, with whom they wreaked havoc on the local scene, and hope to replicate that form for the national team.
The Rugby Cranes 7s are going to be captained by Karim Arinatwe, who is the longest serving member in the set up. The experience of Allan Olango and Roy Kizito shall come in handy when the Cranes compete at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Team: Allan Olango, Roy Kizito, Jeremiah Ojambo, Fat Moses Watmon, Patrick Okello, Ivan Bulima, Karim Arinaitwe (Captain), Gift Wokorach, Jones Kamiza, Shakim Ssembusi, Daniel Otim, Julius Oyuk.
