Agnes Nakuya

The Lady Cranes 7s technical team has gone for a tried and tested squad to compete at the Safari 7s this weekend.

The 12-player squad has a wealth of experience, with players like Agnes Nakuya, who has been named tournament captain in the absence of the indefatigable Peace Lekuru, and the versatile Lydia Namabiro.

Yvonne Najjuma returns to the senior squad after featuring for the emerging Lady Cranes 7s side at the same tournament last year.

Taking a similar leap to Najjuma is her fellow Thunderbird Comfort Anganyika. The swift Anganyika, formerly with the Ewes, was the top scorer in the just-concluded National 7s series, where she led by a country mile. The other Thunderbirds in the squad are Sandra Lona Amoli and Janat Nandudu.

Grace Nabaggala, who was the subject of controversy in the National 7s series, makes it to the team and brings with her the versatility of being able to play in the line or in the forwards. The other forwards in the squad are Fazira Namukwaya, Suzan Adong, Nakuya, Namabiro and Najjuma.

The Lady Cranes 7s backline isn’t short of quick feet and quick thinkers. Sandra Lona Amoli and Juliet Nandawula come in some of the most consistent 7s scrumhalves from the local series, while Tina Akello can command attack while in possession, and defense while without the ball.

The finishers in the squad, including Anganyika and the road runner Racheal Mufuwa, shall be able to get the job done, while twinkle toes, Janat Nandudu is expected to give defenses nightmares, but also deputise Akello on the kicking duties.

Team: Agnes Nakuya (Captain), Lydia Namabiro (Vice Captain), Yvonne Najjuma, Fazira Namukwaya, Suzan Adong, Grace Nabaggala, Juliet Nandawula, Sandra Lona Amoli, Tina Akello, Comfort Anganyika, Racheal Mufuwa, Janat Nandudu.
