The Uganda Para Powerlifting Team successfully arrived in Cairo, Egypt, for the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championship.

The team of six, including four athletes, a coach and an official, set foot in Egypt on Friday, 10th October 2025, ahead of the classification event.

Team captain Dennis Mbaziira (category 88), Ismael Isa Ssebagala (category 72), Rebecca Zawedde (category 86) and Janet Nakayobyo (category 61) are all under the head coach Kenneth Sekilanda.

“We reached well and all the athletes are in the best shape possible. We shall get to the classification event prior to our first games this Sunday,” head coach Sekilanda remarked.

For starters, the 2025 World Para-Powerlifting Championship is taking place in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital, Egypt (8th to 18th October).

The Ugandan delegation was also accompanied by Robert Musinguzi, an official from the Uganda Powerlifting Commission.

The championship has attracted over 800 athletes from more than 73 countries, including Uganda.

This is the first time that Africa and Egypt, in particular, is hosting a world para-lifting event.

The championship is a precursor in the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
