Uganda’s Lady Rugby Cranes Sevens side kicked off the 2025 Safari 7s with a 12-10 victory over Belgium.

However, the Ugandans had to come from down to pick the victory that put them in charge of Pool B.

The Lady Cranes started strong with big carries from skipper Agnes Nakuya and Lydia Namabiro. Nakuya lost the ball in contact at the five-meter line, and from their first attack, Belgium scored through Abigael Bokonda at the corner after some good running from Louka Blommaert.

Shortly after the restart, the Lady Cranes were pinned as Belgium had some good phases of play, moving the ball from side to side before finding some room on the left for Lisa Goossens to run through for the second try.

Uganda turned over possession after the restart, with Namabiro knocking on but they forced a turnover from which Sandra Lona Amoli ran through to ground under the posts for an easy conversion by Grace Nabaggala.

After the break, the Lady Cranes put Belgium under a lot of pressure with Goossens sent to the bin and the Ugandans took full advantage, calling for a scrum from which Amoli, Grace Nabagala and Namabiro had a good phase of play with Amoli at the end to score what turned out to be the winning try.
