Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Kampala International University (KIU) in the University Football League at Nkozi on Friday.

Emmanuel Tumusiime broke the deadlock as the hosts secured maximum points on the day.

KIU came out of their blocks early, dominating play and pressing the hosts on their back feet despite the chants and roars of the fans.

Despite either side creating chances, neither converted, and the first stanza ended with the scoreboard reading 0-0.

Tumusiime’s header off Taban Wijo found the back of the net in the 56th minute, beating the custodian, who hardly moved a step.

The victory takes the Nkozi-based side to 15 straight games unbeaten, a testament enough to mark them as giants of the UFL.

The win takes them to four points level with Mbarara University of Science and Technology, who beat Kisubi in their recent game.
