Uganda Christian University (UCU) humbled newbies King Ceasor in the University Football League.
UCU secured a well-deserved 6-1 victory against King Ceasor in the 2024/25 UFL encounter at Yes Center, Nsambya on Wednesday.
Reagan Ssekisambu (hat trick), Patrick Ogola (brace) and Haruna Nyanzi were on target for the Mukono-based side while Arnold Atusingire pulled back one for the hosts.
Harry Abiti’s strike hit the wood work in the seventh minute as the visitors made their intentions clear in the game.
Ssekisambu finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a brilliant strike after being set up by Lawrence Mulongo.
Ssekisambu doubled the visitors’ lead in the 36th minute. The forward was set up by Mulongo’s throw-in after making a quick run to beat King Cesar’s high defensive line.
Despite creating several chances, UCU Cardinals went into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Ten minutes into the second half, Isaac Ofoyrwoth was brought down in the area and the referee awarded the visitors a penalty.
Ogola stepped up to the occasion and calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net, thus extending UCU’s lead.
Ssekisambu finally sealed his hat trick in the 63rd minute after getting on the end of Ofoyrwoth’s majestic run as he left his marker totally beaten to the ground.
Ten minutes later, Nyanzi was quick to tap in Ofoyrwoth’s delivery as the Cardinals further extended their lead.
With five minutes on the clock, Ogola scored spectacularly as he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper, leaving the backline in ruins.
Atusinguire Arnold gave the hosts a consolation after converting a penalty with three minutes left on the clock.
UCU are finally off the mark, securing their first victory of the campaign after a defeat to Ndejje University in the previous game.
