At the recently concluded Safari 7s, the Lady Cranes set a target to win the tournament but fell short to the hosts in the final by only 4 points.
The Lady Cranes, who are preparing to play at the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s Cup next month in Nairobi, used the Safari 7s to assess their readiness by fielding a full-strength squad.
While the toughest opponent for the Cranes last weekend was the Kenya Lionesses, to whom they also lost in the group phase, the African showpiece presents more powerhouses of the game.
In their group, the Lady Cranes face Zambia and Burkina Faso in fairly easy contests before proceeding to the knockout stages.
The herculean task ahead of them is the potential match-up against Madagascar, familiar foes in the Kenya Lionesses, or facing the defending champions, the South Africa Blitzboks Women.
The winner of the Africa Cup shall automatically qualify for the World Challenger Series, Division 3.
The Lady Cranes hope to return to the international tournament and better their previous performance, where they pulled out of the Challenger Series after 2 stops, citing visa issues with Poland.
