Uganda Table Tennis female team being crowned

For the first time in over 25 years, a Uganda Table Tennis team won a medal at the ITTF Africa Seniors’ meet.

Uganda’s female pair of Parvin Judith Nangonzi and Jemimah Nakawala cruised to a historic bronze medal during the 2025 ITTF Africa seniors championships held at the Salle Omnisport de Radès in Rades, Tunisia.

Nangonzi and Nakawala overcame South Africa’s Sonde Rochica and Danelle, winning 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-8.

“I am extremely excited that we are able to win such medals at the highest level in Africa. The future is definitely bright. I thank UTTF for the preparation of the players and most importantly, Nakasero Table Tennis Club,” Cyrus Muwanga, president of UTTF, remarked.

“For over 25 years, we have patiently waited for this achievement of earning a medal at the African senior levels,” Paul Mutambuze, the head coach for team Uganda, acknowledged.

The medal aside, Uganda also officially qualified for the 2026 World Table Tennis Championship that will be hosted in London, United Kingdom.
