Uganda collected 3,933 points to retain the Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships at the 10th edition held from Thursday to Sunday at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Uganda women’s team collected 1,802 points while the men had 1,991 which were combined with the mixed relay points to come up with the overall totals.

“Kenya gave us a run for our money but we delivered,” team captain Ampaire Namanya said after the four day event which Uganda has now won three times in as many years.

Kenya were runners-up in with 3,572.5 overall points while Tanzania were third with 3,270.5 points.

Some of Uganda’s best perfomers included Nisha Pearl Najjuma (six gold medals, one silver, and one bronze), Jinan Nakato (two gold medals and one bronze), plus boyd Elijah Ayesiga (two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals) and Kristian Bwisho (one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals) in the 12 and Under category.

In the 13-14 years age group, Tyrah Muganzi (three golds and one silver) plus Jonathan Kaweesa (seven gold and three silver) were the best performers while Peyton Suubi (nine gold, one silver) plus Rahmah Nakasule (two gold, one silver, and two bronze) were the best performers in the 15-16 age group.

Tara Kisawuzi collected seven gold medals and four silver while Kyle Kaweesa had three golds and one bronze.
