Despite falling 2-1 at home to Power Dynamos in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League, Vipers coach Jacky Ivan Minnaert believes his side can overturn the result.

Moses Sumah strike and an own goal by Derrick Ndahiro turned Yunus Sentamu’s goal into a mere consolation and the Venoms must now win 2-0 in Zambia to advance to the group stages.

“Hard luck for us because we had a few good chances to score and we didn’t and, in the end, they got two chances in the box and they scored,” the Belgian told the press before sending warning shots to Power Dynamos.

“Of course, we believe 200-percent that nothing is done because of the one goal difference. We need to go there and fight and try to score as soon as possible and I believe we can do it, we are venoms, we are vipers,” he stressed.

He also played down the lack of match fitness talk as Vipers had only played two competitive matches since May saying their effort in the last minutes showed a fit team.

“I don’t believe we lacked match fitness because even with the late minutes, we pressed high up the pitch to try and find the equaliser.”

Vipers will take belief from their 1-0 win over African Stars of Namibia in the previous round.
