Tournament: Victoria Series | Game 3

  • Uganda 100/6
  • Canada 82
  • Uganda won by 18 runs

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls secured the Victoria Series with an 18-run victory against the visitors, Canada, in the third game.

In a game that was delayed by a wet outfield, the visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. It was the first time for Uganda to bat first, who had been winning the toss and bowling first.

Esther Iloku failed to contribute, departing for zero off the first delivery she faced, but captain Janet Mbabazi (20) and Kevin Awino (21) dragged the game on.

However, the runs were not coming easily for Uganda, with the first boundary coming in the ninth over of the game.

Stephanie Nampiina (24) and Proscovia Alako (17) found a second gear in the final five overs to ensure that the hosts post a respectable total.

The hosts were not brave enough in their approach to post a big total.

In the run chase, Uganda struck early and pegged back the visitors, leaving them railing at 24/5. Kevin Amuge struck twice, and some needless running between the wickets left Canada in a bad position.

Captain Amarpal Kaur (28) led the fight back and she got help from Vandan Mahajan (17). They got close to the required run rate but once the former departed, Victoria Pearls got back control and were able to clean up the tail.

The win, though not comfortable, ensures that Uganda can’t lose the series with two more games left to play.

The results for Uganda all with different contrasts in terms of performance, which will give the technical team more work to do ahead of the Emerging Cup in Thailand.
