Makerere Impis defeated Victoria Sharks, 24-19, in a Uganda Cup game played at the Graveyard on Saturday.

The Impis went ahead in the opening three minutes of the game, thanks to the quick reaction of Edwin Muhumuza. Off a scrum penalty, Impis elected to kick for poles, with the attempt from Darren Aine that went wayward across the left pole being picked up by Muhumuza to dot.

This score, however, became an unwelcome invitation for the Sharks to impose themselves upon the Impis. Two converted tries before the halftime break meant that the Impis had a 9-point deficit to overcome.

With Brian Ngabo and Matthew Musasizi shaken but not broken in the first half, they were temporarily hooked off for medical assessment.

In the second half, up stepped Henry Nsekuye, who slotted home 3 penalties and 1 conversion to secure an Impis lead.

A try from Derrick Tumukunde and a near-impossible shot from the half from Musasizi instilled further confidence in the boys in green.

A late charge from the Sharks, who pulled back a try, proved futile as the Impis had the game in the bag by that point.
