Defending champions Pyramids became the 15th side to secure their spot in the Caf Champions League group stages after overcoming Ethiopian Insurance 2-0 at the Air Defence stadium.

Mostafa Ziko and an own goal from Birikit Kikaleb were enough for the holders who qualify for the lucrative stage 3-1 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 in the reverse fixture a week ago.

Ziko opened the scoring in the 11th minute, heading in a precise cross from Mohamed El-Chibi on the right flank and could have bagged a brace but his second goal was ruled out for offside.

Over this weekend, the last team in the group stages will be known when Caf Confederation cup holders RS Berkane host Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli in Morocco.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw in Tripoli and the Moroccans are favourites.

The draw for the groups will be held on November 3rd in Johannesburg South Africa.
