Round 3 of the Uganda Cup was preceded by the tragic passing of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Mongers Rugby Club stalwart, the late Ronald Adigasi.
With some voices in the rugby circles calling for a pause of the tournament to honour the fallen legend, the games went ahead as scheduled the following weekend, when the celebrated prop was being laid to rest.
The fixtures involving the Avengers and Mongers of Entebbe were reasonably postponed, as the two clubs travelled to send off the late Adigasi that weekend. That meant that the Ewes and Rams who were to host the Entebbe sides on Saturday, 1st November, took a rest as they waited for rescheduling of the fixtures.
This week, the Uganda Rugby Union released a revised calendar, where the Ewes Vs Avengers game shall be played this Saturday, 8th November, while the other women’s teams take a weekend off.
The Mongers will make a midweek trip to the Graveyard on Wednesday to play the Rams. Both teams are first going to be in action this Saturday as the Rams go away to the Walukuba Barbarians in Jinja, while the Mongers will host the Kigezi Silverbacks at the Busambaga Rugby Grounds in Entebbe. Both teams shall complete their three-game busy week on Saturday, 15th November, when the Rams hit the road once again, this time to the Kigezi Silverbacks, while the Mongers shall host the Black Pirates.
This is an important week for both sides, who shall be hoping to proceed to the quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup for the second year running.
Last year, they met in the semifinals, from where the Rams proceeded to the final by a coin toss, after the game ended in a draw, even after extra time.
The Black Pirates have already booked their place in the knockout stages, while the Walukuba Barbarians are out, owing to losses to the Mongers and Pirates, in addition to a walkover awarded to the Kigezi Silverbacks.
