All the group leaders are going to be out of action in this weekend’s Uganda Cup fixtures, as the other sides fight for second seeding into the knockout stages of the tournament.

Heathens and Pirates have won all three of their group games, cushioning their lead in their respective pools, while KOBs and Hippos are technically into the quarterfinals, pending a walk-in-the-park encounter for the KOBs when they host Kyambogo, while Hippos won’t have to make the trip to play the warriors, who pulled out of the Uganda Cup.

This weekend’s fixtures are now a battle of who comes second in their respective groups. In Group B, Hippos and Rhinos have already pulled away from the rest of the pack, but the Rhinos still have to dispatch the Mbale Elephants at Legends Rugby Grounds this Saturday. At the bottom end of that pool, the Gulu City Falcons shall get their first 4 points this weekend due to the exit of the Warriors.

In Pool A, the Rams have only played one game, which they lost to the group leaders Pirates. They hope to get a win from the Walukuba Barbarians, who are using this Uganda Cup campaign to try out a few things here and there. The Mongers shall be hosting the Kigezi Silverbacks, in what should be a routine win for the Entebbe side. Should the Rams win in Jinja, it shall make for an interesting midweek fixture between the Rams and Mongers at Makerere this Wednesday, where the visitors must win.

In Pool D, the Victoria Sharks shall be playing for pride when they host the Kitgum Lions at Kyadondo. They have so far played 3 games and lost two in the Pool, while the Makerere Impis have played 2, won 1 and are awaiting a walkover result against the Elgon Wolves, who also pulled out of the Uganda Cup. This leaves the Kitgum Lions as the last fixture for the Makerere boys to progress to the Quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup for the second year running.

While the women’s category was supposed to be on a rest weekend, there is a pending matter between the Ewes and Avengers that needs to be settled this Saturday at the Graveyard.
