Rines SS Women Football Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Uganda Martyrs in the FUFA Women Super League encounter on Saturday morning.
Yasmeen Nalukwago was on target as Rines bagged maximum points on the day.
It was a cagey game throughout that kept both sides locked up seeking a highly needed breakthrough.
Nalukwago broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. The hosts’ goalkeeper made a howler as she failed to take care of the cornerkick before Nalukwago took away the gift.
From that point onwards, Uganda Martyrs threw several bodies upfront in search of an equaliser as they were backed by the home crowd.
Rines responded to the continuous attacks by sitting behind the ball as they soaked in pressure as they guard their slim 1-0 lead.
Despite the strong fight from Uganda Martyrs, Rines’ backline stood tall and firm to take home a hard-fought victory.
The victory takes Rines to fourth place with seven points while Uganda Martyrs fall to the ninth position with only five points.
