Ugandan swimmer Anna Gloria Muzito claimed her third medal at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday evening.

A gold medal and silver in the 100m (freestyle) and 200m (freestyle) respectively at the Olympic Swimming Pool complex earned Muzito her third medal in the games organized by the Islamic Sports Association (ISSA).

Muzito powered to first position in the 100m freestyle women’s final with a time of 0:55:26 ahead of Turkey’s Gizem Guvenc (0:55:47).

This is her second gold medal in these games after a gold medal in the 50M freestyle race.

Bronze was claimed by Senegalese national Oumy Diop, who clocked 0:57:48.

“The race was amazing!” she exclaimed after the clinching pole position. “I am humbled by the achievement of winning my second gold. It remains a team gold by and large,” she added.

In the 200m freestyle women’s finals, Muzito earned silver with 2:04:99 after an impressive run won by Turkey’s Ecem Donmez Ogretir (2:03:89).

Tunisian national Defne Tanig earned bronze with a time of 2:07:43.

The two medals earned by Muzito on Tuesday took her personal tally at the games to three, following a gold in the 50M freestyle on Sunday.

Overall, Uganda has so far earned four medals with boxer Alfred Ojok’s bronze in the Light Heavy category (80 kgs).

Swimming, Boxing, Table Tennis and Weightlifting were the first disciplines that arrived in Uganda.

In the coming week, they will be joined by Athletics, Para-Powerlifting and Wrestling.

These games were first hosted by Saudi Arabia (Mecca) in 2005, and Uganda has taken part since the inception.
