Uganda’s representatives, the Magic Stormers, endured a disappointing showing at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Basketball League (WBLA) Zone V Qualifiers, suffering four losses in as many games.
The team’s poor run was concluded with a 70-50 loss against the APR Women’s Basketball Club, which marked their final defeat in the tournament.
From walkover to crushing Defeats
The Magic Stormers’ troubled campaign started poorly. They awarded Burundi’s Gladiators a 20-0 win by walkover after failing to play their opening game due to a uniform issue.
Following this immediate setback, they faced Tanzania’s Foxes Divas, struggling to find their rhythm and eventually losing 68-55. Their opponents were a quick-footed side, notably led by Ugandan point guard Evelyn Nakiyingi.
Already needing a victory to lift their morale after the walkover, the back-to-back losses severely dampened their spirits.
The team then faced a “baptism of fire,” suffering a crushing 94-41 loss to Kenya’s KPA before their final defeat against APR sealed a winless run across the borders.
