The last Ugandan to compete at the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will be Para-Powerlifter Dennis Mbaziira.

Mbaziira, who will compete in the heavyweight category, checked into the Games Village earlier in the week and has been training at the Princess Nourah Bint University students’ recreation gym.
Accompanied by the head coach, Kenneth Sekilanda, Mbaziira is eager and keen to impress.
“I am prepared and ready for the best display in Riyadh at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games. Since I came here (Riyadh), I have been training well. I can say, I am more than ready to compete,” Mbaziira, who weighed 89.20 Kg, stated on Thursday evening.

He faces stiff competition against 10 other Para-Powerlifters at the Boulevard 01A Riyadh sports city arena.
His coach Sekilanda is optimistic about a great showing ahead of the championships.
“We have prepared well. The athlete (Mbaziira) is physically and mentally ready for the task before him,” Sekilanda revealed.

Some of the other athletes in the heavyweight category include Khattab Abdelkareem (Kuwait), Egyptian Mohamed Sobhy Shaaban Elelfat, and Turkey’s Faruk Ozturk, among others.
Mbaziira recently competed at the Para-World championships hosted in Egypt.
Uganda’s medals so far:
Uganda has amassed as many as 13 medals so far from Athletics (7), Swimming (4), Table Tennis (1) and Boxing (1).
There are three gold, four silver and six bronze medals altogether fetched.

GOLD :
The three gold medals have come from Anna Gloria Muzito (50m freestyle, 100m freestyle) and Rebecca Chelangat (10,000m women).
SILVER:
Silver was reaped by Anna Gloria Muzito (200 freestyle), Samuel Simba Cherop (10,000m men), Halima Nakaayi (800m women) and Charity Cherop (5000m women)
BRONZE:
The bronze medals came from Alfred Ojok (Light Heavy, 80kgs), Samuel Simba Cherop (5000m men), Table Tennis women Doubles (Jemima Nakawala and Parvin Judith Nangonzi), Shida Leni (400m women), Abel Chebet (10,000m men) and swimmer Jesse Ssuubi Ssengonzi (100m butterfly).
