Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) hope to follow in the footsteps of Kampala RFC, who were the last Ugandan side to win the Enterprise Cup in 1970.
KOBs are already in Nakuru for their quarterfinal encounter against the Nondies, who have won this competition for a record 25 times.
The two sides last met in 2023 in the Kitaka 10s, which the Nondies ended up winning at Legends Rugby Club.
KOBs believe they have done enough preparation for this fixture, given the winning streak they’ve been on in the local league.
Like most Ugandan sides, the KOBs are elated at the return of the Enterprise Cup, a go-forward signal in East African rugby.
“It’s an exciting feeling. We now have our own Champions Cup, and it’s going to be good growth for clubs from both Uganda and Kenya,” notes Simon Makumbi, the club captain of the KOBs.
Most of the players in the KOBs squad were only old enough to be ball boys the last time Ugandan Sides played in the Enterprise Cup, but this hasn’t stopped their ambitions. With the right structure, Makumbi believes the KOBs can bring the win back home.
“As captain, I am a little greedy; I want nothing short of victory in this encounter. I would love for us to execute our game plan to the fullest and give Nondies and our travelling fans a game to remember.”
The international exposure that comes with playing the Enterprise Cup across the border is something the KOBs captain has welcomed with open arms
“I believe this is more of an Elgon Cup encounter, so the players are going to understand what it means to play an international fixture. The players have picked up the pressure and what it means to represent the country in your team colours.
“Additionally, there is a big lesson that there is no victory without blood, and that is going to translate at kickoff.”
