Coming off a 100% winning record in the group stage of the Uganda Cup, the KOBs hope to carry this form into their quarterfinal match-up against familiar foes, Rhinos.
KOBs haven’t lifted any major silverware since winning the nine-game Rugby Premiership back in 2021. This season, they haven’t been at their very best, bowing out in the semifinal of the Uganda Rugby Premier League playoffs and not winning a single circuit in the national 7s.
The Uganda Cup presents a shot at a trophy to salvage their season, a fact the Rhinos are aware of.
Rhinos captain Jeremy Thembo is well aware of what this stage of the tournament means, as he noted after their last group game against the Mbale Elephants.
“We have trusted our team and spread out tasks, we have rested some of our 7s players, and we are aiming to bring them in for the quarterfinals. We are giving these youngsters a chance to get some experience,” he remarked.
The last time the Rhinos came close to a major trophy was in 2018, falling narrowly short in the league. Only a year later, the KOBs were winning the Uganda Cup while the Rhinos were facing relegation in the National 7s. This has been the stark contrast between the two legends-based sides, where one can win titles during a slump, while the other only comes close.
As of 2025, the Rhinos hold the bragging rights in this fixture, conquering Legends Rugby Club by a measly 2 points in a close 13-11 encounter.
