CAF, under the leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe, has made tremendous changes in promoting the game of football in Africa, both on and off the pitch.
Competitions being the heartbeat of the game, CAF has made sure that tournaments are at the forefront. In the last few years, there has been an increase in the prize money attached to the continental competitions.
As we continue the build-up to AFCON 2025, we look at the prize money for the tournament slated to take place between 21st December to 18th January in Morocco.
In January 2024, CAF announced an increase in the Prize Money by 40%. The Winner of the tournament receives US $7,000,000.
The Runner-up (losing finalist) gets $4,000,000, while each of the two semifinalists receives $2,500,000. The Quarterfinalists earn $1,300,000 each.
For the other stages, CAF set the following allocations:
- Round of 16: $800,000
- Third in group: $700,000
- Fourth in group: $500,000
