Overview:
Hoima City Stadium is one of the facilities fronted by the Government of Uganda to host AFCON 2027; alongside Mandela National Stadium and Akii Bua Stadium (Lira).
The newly constructed Hoima City Stadium glows. It is a treasure, enviable, expansive and magnificent.
A project funded by the Government of Uganda specifically for the forthcoming AFCON 2027 tournament, the Hoima City stadium has a 20,000 seating capacity, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, modern changing rooms, an external training ground and a 2000 seater basketball court.
On Thursday, 4th December 2025, this facility was inspected by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the senior presidential advisor on Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The project was initially scheduled for completion in 18 months, but, in a shocking quick glimpse of time, execution was delivered five months ahead of the planned deadline.
Muriat Altun, the project manager, guided General Muhoozi, who was joined by Selim Bora (SUUMA chairman), Envar Sayan (SUUMA Chief Executive Officer), the state minister for sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports chairperson Ambrose Tashobya, Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel (General Secretary, National Council of Sports), Brian Kabooyo (Mayor Hoima City) and others.

General Muhoozi toured the entire facility and even scored in the basketball ring as he called for stringent maintenance measures to ensure its long-term durability and value for money.
The visit by General Muhoozi comes at a time when the Hoima City Stadium will be officially commissioned by the head of state, His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in the coming weeks.

Hoima City Stadium is one of the facilities fronted by the Government of Uganda to host AFCON 2027, alongside Mandela National Stadium and Akii Bua Stadium (Lira).
Uganda will co-host the AFCON 2027 with neighbours Kenya and Tanzania.
Hoima City Stadium’s construction comes at a time when the Government is fronting the construction of sports facilities across the country in a bid to boost the sports sub-sector.
The Lugogo Sports Complex is yet another mega project that the Government is set to undertake and will last for a period of 18 months.
