  • Maroons 1-0 SC Villa

Maroons secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League in Luzira on Saturday evening.

Ivan Mayanja placed the hosts in the driving seat within one minute of the game. The agile midfielder was set up by Baden Mujahid.

However, both sides finished with a game less after Luzira’s goalkeeper Simon Tamale and SC Villa’s defender Geoffrey Lubangakene were given marching orders.

This was a result of the tension and physicality in the game. The ugly scenes started by Tamale kicking an opponent before the situation erupted.

The Wardens sacrificed Ivan Asaba to bring on goalkeeper Matovu Hassan, who had a decent performance on the tough evening.

SC Villa threw everything at Maroons’ backline, but the Luzira-based side was equal to the challenge and stood tall and firm.

The victory lifts Maroons to eighth on the log with 12 points while SC Villa remain second on the 16-team log with 17 points after nine games.
