Ali Katumba and Yasin Nasser

Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba’s continental achievement has been honoured at the annual FIA Awards in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Nasser and Katumba are the latest and only the second crew from Uganda to feature at the FIA Awards gala as the Africa rally champions.

The Moil Rally crew clinched the Africa rally title, edging Kenya’s Samman Vohra in Rally Tanzania in September, ending Uganda’s twenty-six-year wait for the continent’s motorsport crown.

The late Charles Muhangi and Stephen Byaruhanga had won the same crown in 1999.

Nasser and Katumba, who received their accolade in the presence of their entire technical team, were awarded along with several regional champions from across the world in different motorsport disciplines.

The ARC title raised Yasin to the highest echelons of Uganda’s motorsport. He now holds two Uganda national rally titles, one Tanzania rally title, an ARC2 category title and now the coveted continental title.

The Moil crew won the title with the Ford Fiesta rally2 and by one point ahead of Kenya’s Vohra.
