The 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games kicked off with a vibrant and colourful opening ceremony at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.

The national event officially commenced on Friday, December 19, marking the start of a week-long celebration of sporting excellence and talent development.

The ceremony featured a blend of cultural displays, musical performances, and enthusiastic cheers from a packed crowd of sports fans.

Dignitaries and Keynote Address
Several high-profile figures attended the event, including Sammy Odong, Assistant Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, and Dr. David Mugawe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UCU.

During his keynote address, Assistant General Secretary Joseph Oluka emphasised the importance of integrity within the sports fraternity.

Addressing concerns such as age-cheating, Oluka urged that the values of honesty be instilled in athletes from the start of their careers.

”These games should teach all athletes and facilitators the value of integrity; with it, there are no true losers,” Oluka stated.

“We are transitioning from a focus on individual sports to a multi-sport mindset, as there are far greater benefits within these broader disciplines and structures,” he added.

This year’s edition features universities competing across 19 different disciplines.

While the atmosphere is celebratory, the stakes are high as participating institutions aim to dethrone the reigning champions, Ndejje University.
