Uganda Christian University secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Bugema University in the Association of Uganda University Sports on Sunday.
Peter Kyomuhendo struck as the Cardinals secured maximum points on the day.
The hosts played to a goalless first half despite creating several chances but not utilising any of them.
Coming into the second stanza, coach Jimmy Kintu’s troops kept composed and disciplined thus soaking in Bugema’s pressure.
Midway through the second period, Kyomuhendo found the back of the net through a powerful free kick that ended up being the decider of the game.
The victory takes the Mukono-based side to seven points in three games, following a one-all draw against Kampala University, a loss to St Lawrence and a victory over ISBAT University.
Speaking to the press, Kyomuhendo was glad that his goal was the reason the side moved to the next level.
“We thank God for the victory. I feel blessed to score today. I am so happy that this goal will take us to the next level of the tournament and that means a lot to us,” he said.
