Overview:

Like the millions of Ugandans out there, we live in hope and anticipation for great faring at the 2025 AFCON championship.

Uganda Cranes returns to the prestigious TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the 7th time in history since 1962.

The 35th edition of the tournament in Morocco presents yet another lifetime opportunity for the East African country to showcase its full football potential on the continent.

Coming to Morocco, Uganda carries the pedigree as the most outstanding East African country, having qualified for AFCON along with Tanzania, with whom they are pooled in the same group, C.

Uganda Cranes’ first game at the 2025 championship comes against Tunisia, a tried and tested country on the African continent.

This contest will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 23rd December 2025, at the Stade Olympique Annexe Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah.

The Cranes held their final training session on Monday evening at the Stade Olympic Annex facility in Rabat.

I managed to watch the first 15 minutes of this session along with the fellow members of the media who travelled from Uganda.

From the first impression, the players basked in confidence, smiling as they energetically limbered around.

Experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango, Rogers Mato and Allan Okello confidently addressed the media.

Each of the players expressed readiness to encounter the opponents with positive vibes only.

The chilly, rainy weather conditions continue to impact as I gallantly acclimatise to the cold.

Any positive result (short of a loss) from the Tunisian game will definitely propel the Uganda Cranes in the rest of the games.

The second one will come on the 27th December 2025 with Tanzania at the Stade El Barid stadium before completing the group stage business on 30th December 2025 against Nigeria at Complexe Sportif De Fes.

Ivory Coast is the reigning champion of this competition. With seven titles, Egypt is the record winner of the tournament.
