The Uganda Cranes endured a difficult start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Tunisia at the Stade Olympique Annexe Complexe Sportif Prince Abdellah in Rabat.
While it was a disappointing day at the office for the Cranes, Toby Sibbick’s performance stood out as a rare bright spot.
The defender marshalled his area effectively and was instrumental in trying to progress the ball forward into the attacking third.
Reflecting on the result after the final whistle, Sibbick was blunt about the team’s defensive lapses.
”We simply gave away three sloppy goals. I don’t think they had to work particularly hard for them,” he admitted.
“It was too easy for them, and we are very disappointed with that. However, I am confident we will see an improvement in the next game.”
Despite the opening loss, the Burton Albion right-back remains optimistic that Uganda can navigate the group stages and reach the knockout rounds.
”In football, anything can happen. We just need to maintain our belief and competitive fire. Hopefully, we can win our upcoming matches to put ourselves in a strong position heading into the final group game,” he concluded.
The Uganda Cranes will look to bounce back on Saturday, December 27, when they face neighbours Tanzania at the Stade El Barid.
