As matchday two of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations gets underway, the tournament has already delivered its signature blend of goals, drama, and vibrant atmosphere.

However, not everything has gone according to the rulebook and CAF is moving swiftly to address disciplinary lapses to ensure the tournament’s integrity.

The Egyptian national team has been slapped with a $5,000 fine (UGX 18,042,520) for violating CAF’s media obligations during their encounter with Zimbabwe.

According to reports from sports journalist Micky Jnr, the fine stems from the team’s refusal to engage with the press following the match.

Despite the mandatory post-match protocols, the entire Egyptian delegation—including players and technical staff—bypassed the designated mixed zone.

The group walked past waiting journalists without answering a single question, leaving the gathered media frustrated and disappointed.

CAF has taken a firm stance on the matter, signalling that ‘bent poles’ must be straightened for the tournament to remain professional.

The governing body has officially warned the Egyptians that any further failure to meet media requirements, specifically after their upcoming clash against South Africa, will result in significantly heavier sanctions.
