Burkina Faso returned to winning ways after beating Sudan 2-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations encounter at Stade Mohamed V Stadium on Wednesday.
Burkina Faso entered the match after a 1-0 loss to Algeria, meaning they needed a victory to secure second place in the group.
Lassina Traore broke the deadlock in the 16th minute to place Burkina Faso in the driving seat. Lassina nodded into the back of the net after connecting with a delightful delivery.
Herve Koffi made a dangerous play in the area and referee Mohamed Omar awarded Sudan a penalty in the 23rd minute.
Al Gozoli Nooh stepped up to the occasion and misfired the penalty, sending the ball wide of the left post in the 24th minute.
Sudan had a great chance to level matters through Yasir Mozamil, who found space in the area but his effort went wide of the right post.
Arsene Kouassi doubled Burkina Faso’s lead in the 85th minute. He received a delightful pass in the area and smashed the ball into the bottom left corner.
The victory takes Burkina Faso in the second position with six points in three games while Sudan finishes third with three points.
