NCS General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel flags off the Uganda Cross Country team at Lugogo

The Uganda Cross Country team was officially flagged off to the United States of America (USA) for the 46th World Cross Country Championship due to place at Apalachee Regional Park – Tallahassee in Florida state on Saturday, 10th January 2026.

National Council of Sports (NCS) officials led by the General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel flagged off the 26-member team at Lugogo, Kampala on Monday, 5th January 2026.

Vastly experienced Jacob Kiplimo leads the cast of the men’s team that also has Dan Kibet, Dolphine Chelimo, Emmanuel Kibet, Keneth Kiprop and Deogracius Musobo.

“We have prepared well and ready to give the best show at the 46th World Cross Country championships in the USA” Kiplimo revealed.

The female seniors team has Sarah Chelangat, Rebecca Chelangat, Kereen Chemusto, Martha Chemutai, Joy Cheptoyek and Rispa Cherop.

Juniors:

The U-20 women side has Peace Chebet, Felister Chekwemoi, Nancy Chepkwurui, Charity Cherop and Bentalin Yeko who will cover 6 KM.

The men on the U-20 team are; Solomon Andiema, Daniel Kiprotich Chelogoi, Abraham Cherotich, Dan Kipyeko and Jeremiah Kwemoi; will cover 8 KM.

Mixed relay (2 x 4KM):

The mixed relay team has four athletes; Brenda Chekwemoi, Sylvia Chelangat, Silas Chemutai and Daniel Comboni.

Uganda will be joined by Kenya and Ethiopia from Africa. The other competing countries will be USA (hosts), Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

The event is organized by World Athletics.
