Egypt completes the semi-finals’ puzzle to take the remaining seat in the tournament’s last four.
Egypt secures a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Ivory Coast in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals in Agadir on Saturday.
Omar Mamoush broke the deadlock early in the fourth minute after Ivory Coast failing to take good care of the ball in the middle park.
From that point Ivory Coast got on the front foot. Amad Diallo had a great chance to level matters but his effort was majestically blocked in the 10th minute.
Yan Diomande asked Morocco a lot of questions but Egypt were calm and composed, thus dealing with the threat in a well-organised manner.
Rami Rabia limped highest in the area to double Egypt’s lead in the 32nd minute. Despite being marked by Ibrahim Sangare, Rabia was strong enough to guide Mohamed Salah’s delivery into the back of the net.
With five minutes to play in the opening stanza, Ahmed Fatouh guided Diomande’s delivery into the back of the net. The strike gave Ivory Coast belief going into the break.
Salah tapped home from close range to extend Egypt’s lead to three in the 52nd minute. The agile and quick-footed forward was tracked by Emam Ashour in a great play.
Guela Doue improvised to nick the ball home in the 73rd minute. After a mile in Egypt’s goal area, Doue was the quickest to tap the ball into the back of the net.
Despite Ivory Coast’s charge in the final minutes, Egypt’s backline stood tall and firm to take the bragging rights.
The Pharaohs will keep the hopes of lifting the eighth title but that is far from done since they take on Senegal in the semifinals on Wednesday, January 14.
